In 2015, Mette and Martin, two leading colleagues at one of the world’s largest hearing aid companies, were chatting over coffee. “Mette,” said Martin, “these noise reduction systems don’t really work. The more noise they remove, the more distorted the voice becomes. It often sounds like it’s coming from a barrel. And the AI tools we use to compensate don’t really help.” Martin thought for a moment. “It’s not about removing noise,” he said. “It’s about finding and enhancing the voice within the noise. The key is learning.
